Aquilegia brevistyla

Aquilegia brevistyla

I'm away this week, so only brief entries with the photographs.

To start a small series on Ranunculaceae, or the buttercup family, I've chosen this native of northern North America, Aquilegia brevistyla or blue columbine. It has a continuous distribution throughout much of Canada and Alaska from Ontario west, but also has disjunct populations occurring in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. This photograph was taken in mid-June in open woods along the roadside near Chetwynd, British Columbia.

Nice pic but what I really want to say is that the new web-site is really smart looking. I remember the water droplets on moss photo from a while back and was so impressed with it I used it as desktop background for a long time; the leaves pic is striking too; great logo etc. It's a refreshing look. Great job!

...sooo...away for a week..?...bet you didn't forget your camera...

I haven't been to the site in a few months but the redesign looks great. I look forward to seeing more photos like this. Great job.
